The Duetto MT also incorporates Alexandrite 755nm technology, allowing us to select the most appropriate wavelength according to your skin tone, hair type and treatment area. This is genuine laser technology rather than IPL. Every course begins with a professional consultation and test patch so that your skin response can be assessed before treatment starts.
Laser hair removal works by targeting pigment within the hair. However, darker skin also contains higher levels of melanin. If unsuitable technology or incorrect settings are used, the laser energy may be absorbed by pigment within the surrounding skin rather than being concentrated on the hair follicle.
This can increase the possibility of unwanted skin reactions, including temporary or longer-lasting changes in pigmentation and, in more serious cases, burns.
It is therefore essential to use a wavelength that can target the hair while reducing unnecessary absorption by pigment in the skin. Nd:YAG 1064nm laser technology has lower melanin absorption and penetrates more deeply than shorter wavelengths. This makes it an important option when treating many patients with darker skin tones. Suitability must still be assessed individually. No laser treatment should be approached as automatically appropriate for every patient simply because a particular wavelength is available.
The Duetto MT’s Nd:YAG wavelength can bypass more of the pigment near the skin’s surface and deliver energy deeper towards the hair follicle.
This allows suitable darker and Black skin tones to be treated using settings selected specifically for the individual.
The Duetto MT combines two established laser wavelengths. Alexandrite 755nm is particularly effective for suitable lighter skin tones with pigmented hair.
Nd:YAG 1064nm has lower absorption by melanin within the skin and is generally more appropriate when treating suitable darker skin tones.
Having both technologies means we do not have to rely on one laser wavelength for every patient.
Your practitioner can select the appropriate technology after assessing your skin tone, hair colour, hair thickness and recent sun exposure.
Women experiencing PCOS or other hormonal changes may develop coarse, dark hair around the chin, jawline, upper lip or neck.
Laser may significantly reduce suitable pigmented facial hair and make any remaining growth easier to manage. However, laser does not treat PCOS or correct the underlying hormonal cause. Hormonal conditions can continue to stimulate new hair growth, so additional sessions or occasional maintenance treatments may be required.
Male facial and neck hair can also be treated. Popular options include reducing hair along the neck and cheeks to create a cleaner beard line or addressing irritation associated with frequent shaving.
Coarse or tightly curled hair can sometimes grow back into the skin after shaving, contributing to irritation and ingrown hairs. This can be particularly troublesome around the male beard and neck area, as well as the bikini line and underarms.

Hair grows in cycles, and laser can only effectively target a hair when it is in the appropriate active growth phase.
At any one appointment, only a proportion of hairs will be at this stage. Treatments must therefore be repeated at planned intervals to target different hairs as they enter active growth.
